Frequently asked questions

Why do I have to press so many buttons? Can't it all be automated?

It can, and that was how the initial version of this app worked. Unfortunately, this version of the app was rejected by the Play Store due to their policies on Spam protection and use of SMS permissions. We've created a much more limited version of the app so it can be accepted in the Google Play Store.

Will there be a release for iOS?

iOS is much more limited with the permissions available to apps. An iOS version of the app would probably have even more limited functionality than the Android version of the app (e.g. manual confirmation at the start of each call, or when sending messages). I can look into creating this if there's enough demand.

Can I pay to remove ads?

A paid ad-free version of the app is currently under development. We'll let you know when it's released.

The Excuse Me! app is developed by btalb Pty Ltd. We take the privacy of our users seriously, and avoid gathering data wherever possible.

We declare that, to the best of our knowledge and belief, this app has not been programmed to collect any personally identifiable information. All data, like contact selections and sound recordings, are stored on your device only. This data is never accessed outside the purposes of the app, and can be permanently removed at any stage by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it.

Due to the nature of functionality required in the Excuse Me!, there are a number of permissions requested. All permissions are only requested at the time they are required. Below is a list of these permissions, and what they are used for within the app:

CALL_PHONE

Is used only to make calls to the selected contact after the deploy button is pressed. This permission is only requested if you enable the toggle on the main screen for making phone calls. The app can still be used without granting this permission.

INTERNET

Required to serve ads. The Internet is not used to send or receive any data outside of this purpose. This permission is required to use the app.

SEND_SMS

Is used only to send SMS messages to the selected contact after the deploy button is pressed. This permission is only requested if you enable the toggle on the main screen for send SMS messages. The app can still be used without granting this permission.
Permission removed at the request of the Google Play Store.

READ_CONTACTS

Required to provide the drop-down list of suggestions when selecting a contact and for accessing the contact's phone number. The app intentionally doesn't allow entering arbitrary phone numbers to limit spam usability. This permission is required to use the app.

READ_PHONE_STATE

Used to determine if phone is currently in a call. This allows the app to ensure there is an appropriate delay between calls, and not request calls while one is already ongoing. This permission is required to use the app.

RECORD_AUDIO

Is used to record custom sounds for grabbing attention. The permission is only requested when attempting to record a custom sound. The app can still be used without granting this permission.
